bonfire heart

This is the time of the year when I think most about adoption.  Oliver's three year family day is just around the corner and it always makes me stop and think about the journey.  The journey was hard.  It was joy filled.  It was sad.  It was an adventure.  And at times I was sure it wasn't going to work out.

Lots of times I didn't have the words I needed, but would cry my eyes out when I heard certain songs on the radio or on my ipod.  Music just has this amazing way of expressing exactly how you're feeling, when you're not even sure how you are feeling.

Sometime last year I heard James Bunt's song Bonfire Heart on the radio for the first time and went right home to download it.  I'm lucky this song wasn't out when I was in the process, there is no way I could make it through with a dry eye, I barely can now.

Verse 2 is a perfect summery of Oliver waiting for us, and us fighting for him.

"This world is getting colder.
Strangers passing by
No one offers you a shoulder.
No one looks you in the eye.
But I’ve been looking at you
For a long, long time
Just trying to break through,
Trying to make you mine

Everybody wants a flame,
They don’t want to get burnt
Well, today is our turn

...People like us—we don’t
Need that much, just some-
One that starts,
Starts the spark in our bonfire hearts"

The video is also pretty great.  It has Oliver's favorite things...
-a guy on a motor cycle
-getting pulled over by a police man
-a guy playing a guitar

I dare you to listen.

  1. What a great song for that! I totally know what you mean. Several times I had to pull over when something made me a mess.

Our song for the video when we could finally post it because we had freed him was Tyrone Wells' "When you are here with me".

What a terrific song for O! Love it.

  2. Love James Blunt!!! Great song, can't believe I haven't heard it before. Strange as it may be, the song that was popular at the time of our waiting was Miley Cyrus' The Climb. We had been going through our Home study agency being blacklisted, possible closures, etc. I would listen to that song and ball my eyes out!
